Uniformed Allied Universal Public Safety Officers provide walking escorts to all campus locations. Officers are dispatched by radio and will accompany you from one campus location to another, to your parked vehicle, to a Penn Transit Stop or to an on-campus SEPTA regional transit stop.

To request a walking escort:

  • Ask any Public Safety Officer on patrol or inside a building
  • Call 215-898-WALK(9255) or 511 (from campus phone)
  • Use one of the many building and blue-light ephones located on and off Penn’s Campus.

penn police

The University of Pennsylvania Police Department, with 120 members, is the largest private police department in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and maintains the second largest number of full-time sworn police officers amongst all private Universities across the United States, and the third largest number of sworn police officers for all Universities nationwide, both public and private.

Penn notifies all faculty, staff and students of campus alerts via personal electronic devices (e.g., cell phones, pda handhelds, etc.) through text messaging and email. Students can add up to three phone numbers in Penn InTouch to receive UPennAlerts, including the phone number(s) of non-Penn family members.

Penn Guardian is a service that allows students to rapidly provide information about themselves to the Division of Public Safety during an emergency. By building a personal profile, information about you can be immediately accessed by PennComm dispatchers should you call Public Safety from a registered cellphone. Penn Guardian can also provide police with GPS coordinates from your phone, which can decrease response time and allow first responders to locate you should you not be able to give them your location. A Penn email address is required to download the app.

Register your property (laptop, cellphone, bike, etc.) with Penn Division of Public Safety through the Campus Express portal.
